What is the function of an External Hdd enclosure?
Is it just like a case for your external hard-drive? Does it do anything extra that the external hdd can’t do without it?
Oh i probably should have wikied this lol.
It has the circuitry in it that enables USB or Esata to power up and run the Hard Drive, and also provides protection from elements and people with peanut butter on their fingers.
You could run the hard drive outside the case, but you would have to connect it to the cables inside, including the Power Cable, and then, the drive would just be hanging and in the way.
So the case is not just a case, it has a small Circuit Board inside and a special plug to match the hard drive (IDE or SATA), so if you bought a case, it would have to match the hard drive plugs, IDE or SATA
And the case makes wiping the peanut butter off easier.

I got a USB extension cable for my wireless dongle, but ever since connecting it I get occasional problems?
Don’t know if anyone would know the answer, but since connecting it, 50% of searches end up saying ‘Internet Explorer Cannot Connect to Webpage’… a refresh usually does the trick but occasionally this won’t work and I have to access the given site through other links or methods. It’s only since I added a 3 metre extension cable to my wireless dongle. Any advice or fixes known?
Dongles are only supposed to be a direct USB connection. They are not designed to be used with an extension cable.
Without getting too technical a dongle picks up a radio signal. It’s antenna length is fixed by the windings inside. You sticking it on the end of an extension lead alters that wave length ratio.
Also using an extension you have to have power to drive it in the form of an electrical supply. Radio waves don’t rely on electrical power as such. They are just picked up out of the atmosphere.
So therefore the natural resistance in the cable doesn’t help because it greatly reduces the signal over it’s length.
If that makes any sense to you.
