Creating an External BD-Burner/player from an internal drive?
I plan on converting an internal Blu-Ray Drive to an External Drive for use on my TV. I am planning on using a SATA to USB cord to go into the laptop, and then from my laptop to my tv via USB to HDMI. My questions is will the signal have to go through my video card? My video card does not support HD and would therefore be going from HD to non-HD back to HD thus being normal quality on the TV.
Also, is there anything else i would have to take into consideration?

What’s the point of paying for cable or satellite tv?
Okay lest I sound like a nut case. But seriously, most cable packages cost between $40-50 per month and with 500 channels, I still find it amazing that there is so much junk.
I wish we could order our own channels too. If you pay money for cable/satellite then why should you also sit through ads? Seeing how society is already inundated with marketing and product placements its like enough is enough.
I have no choice but to pay for satellite TV. I live so far out in the sticks, and in hilly country, that an antenna picks up nothing and cable isn’t available.

MacBook Pro spits out every single disk I insert into it. How can I fix this?
Every time I try to insert a CD into my MacBook pro it will attempt to read it for a few seconds and then instantly spit it out. I have tried various CD’s, from software to music to games. Nothing will spin more than 5 seconds before getting ejected automatically.
Is this a problem within my MacBook Pro software or would the actual Disk Drive be ruined?

I am planning on buying a custom made computer. I already have a great graphics card, a decent amount of RAM, and a good Hard Drive. However, I am not sure if I should get a Dual Core 2 Duo processor or an Intel i5. I plan to use the computer for video editing, online usage, and some moderate gaming. Which processor is best for me?
First things first Intel markets two different processors under the “core i5″ brand. A dual core family and a Quad Core family, I’m assuming that since you ask about the core 2 duo VS the i5 you have already decided on a dual core setup but if your workloads parallelise well a quad core (whether core 2 quad or quad-core i5) may be a better choice.
In general from the benchmarks i’ve seen the core i5 is generally a bit faster than a core 2 duo at the same clock speed. Fruthermore it has lower power consumption and “turbo boost” to improve performance under single threaded workloads. Prices seem similar for the same clock speed of processor.
Graphics on the dual core i5 are now on-chip and are better than previous intel graphics but worse than nvidia integrated graphics. Ultimately though any serious gamer is going to want to use a separate graphics card anyway so I consider this a minor point (and note with the quad core i5 or with a dual-core i5 on an older motherboard design you HAVE to use a seperate graphics card).
The main downside of the core i5 seems to be motherboard cost with a basic i5 board costing arround double what a basic core 2 duo board costs. This is a fairly small fraction of total system cost though unless you are really scraping the bottom of the barrel so I wouldn’t unduly worry about it.
Ram is a bit of a tossup, the i5 uses DDR3 while with the core 2 duo it depends on the motherboard (most often DDR2 is used but some boards use DDR3). Right now DDR2 is cheaper but DDR3 comes in higher speeds and is likely to be cheaper in the future as DDR2 becomes obsolete.
If you ever plan to upgrade the processor then being on a newer socket is almost certainly an advantage. While it’s not entirely clear which processors will end up on LGA1156 in the future it does seem clear that there is unlikely to be much new stuff coming out on LGA775.
Overall I’d go for the i5 unless I had a motherboard or ram I wanted to reuse.
